North Greenwich SE10

One of my more complex projects to date, this renovated basement kitchen has had a fabulous makeover.  Situated in a Georgian home, the original basement kitchen space was dark and uninviting.  It had a very low ceiling with no straight walls to work with.  It also had various plumbing and electrical considerations and a crawl space that was situated in a spot that would impact on the layout.  As the renovation went on, a large amount of damp was uncovered which meant we had to reconsider some aspects of the design and the project was also set back by several weeks.  Working with a low ceiling also presented a number of challenges.  For instance, finding an extractor fan that could work with such a low ceiling above a gas hob was a challenge all on its own.  In fact, I think we found possibly the only available model that would fit there!

I feel that my client made the perfect choice with their modern handleless Linear cabinetry in White mirror gloss.  The size of the windows of the original kitchen didn’t actually change, but it’s amazing how the white gloss finish, white walls and integrated LED lighting in the wall units allows the light to bounce around the room and for the room to then appear much bigger than it is. To compliment the beautiful cabinetry, they chose a Compac Portoro 30mm quartz for their worktop.  This is a statement quartz with a marble effect that gives a richness to the scheme.

The custom height row of tall cabinetry allows for a massive amount of extra storage.  There is also a ‘hidden’ utility room and the crawl space is hidden behind a set of double doors in the tall housing area.  We boxed in the tall cabinetry to make it appear to float against the wall and give it this lovely seamless flow.

I know my clients are delighted with their finished kitchen and I am too.

Working with Elisa was fantastic. Her ability to listen, brainstorm together and come up with ideas we hadn’t thought of was really valuable.  And I really appreciated her guidance and knowledge to steer us in a good direction when planning our kitchen. It was great to have someone on this journey who is calm, trustworthy and reliable.  Thank you!
