Muswell Hill N10

When I first went to visit this client, she had a modern red gloss kitchen in place.  It didn’t have particularly useful storage and the island was not the right shape for the space.  It was too deep and created congestion in important areas of the kitchen.  This kitchen had several different ceiling heights, pillars and posts to navigate and so it was crucial that the positioning of everything in this kitchen was precise.  I felt early on that an L-shaped island would be the perfect shape for this space.  While that is an unusual shape of island, it works brilliantly in this kitchen as it allows for a very useful amount of worktop space and also gives wonderful storage in the shape of four large sets of pan drawers.  Most importantly, it solved the former problem of congestion.

Thankfully, my client was totally on board with the layout, and we set about ensuring the storage and design would be everything that she wanted. We incorporated some super storage including a beautiful double pantry unit to house all the food and small appliances.  There is also a bifolding dresser unit that has plugs inside it and is used to ensure appliances are hidden from view and aren’t cluttering up the work surface.

My client went with a modern twist to a classic style by selecting in-frame units but with a slab door rather than the traditional shaker door.  This was painted in Little Greene’s Puck which is a rich and inviting green with a botanical hue to it.  My client has a beautiful garden and was keen to connect the two spaces.  The connection to nature is utilised further with the stunning 25mm thick real oak veneer panels we incorporated throughout the kitchen to frame the units.  It’s also a particularly practical and robust material to use for end panels and plinths.

We accessorised with elegant brass accents for the handles and tap.  The beautiful Nile Calacatta Gold worktop looks great on the island and is used as a full height backsplash behind the hob.  My client had fun with her finishes and had a bar area with fluted glass drawers made to match the kitchen.

This was a wonderful kitchen project to be part of and I’m as delighted with the finished kitchen as my client is.
